Top Amarillo lawyers Eric J. Matthews and Jonathan E. Sterling from Brown & Fortunato were honored with this week’s prestigious Texas Rising Stars award. The award, given by Super Lawyers’ research team, is limited to just 2.5 percent of statewide attorneys annually.

Matthews is known for his expertise in business projects, such as mergers, acquisitions, corporate governance, and real estate in the Amarillo office. This year is his second receipt of the Rising Star recognition.

Sterling operates from the Dallas office, covering a spectrum of industries from energy to financial services.

Amarillo attorneys earn Rising Stars award

The accolade marks his consistent recognition as a Rising Star since 2020.

Several oil and gas corporations effectively reactedto the recent Texas wildfires. Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Diamondback Energy, Permian Resources, and Pioneer Natural Resources have collectively donated $200,000 to wildfire disaster relief initiatives. Their aim is not only to aid rebuilding efforts but also to help enhance emergency response capabilities.

The donations support the Amarillo Area Foundation’s Panhandle Disaster Relief Fund. This fund helps wildfire victims in the immediate aftermath and addresses long-term recovery aspects. It provides aid in forms such as grief counseling and agricultural loss adjustment.

Thus far, the foundation has granted over $1.3 million to affected communities. This financial aid has been pivotal in enabling affected communities to restore normalcy and commence rebuilding.

In partnership with the Working Ranch Cowboys Association, Cavender’s Boot City is also contributing to fundraising initiatives for wildfire disaster relief. Their support of this communal cause further demonstrates Amarillo’s preservation of cultural heritage.
